Banyan Tree KL, the brand’s first property in Malaysia, is now officially open. The hotel offers 55 rooms and suites with a contemporary flair.
The hotel also offers panoramic dining and drinking experience as most of their restaurants and bars are located on high floors. Altitude, located on level 53, is one of them. It offers a calming environment for morning coffee, light lunches, afternoon tea and to handpicked wines and craft beers paired perfectly with a casual menu.
We were here for their afternoon tea and the view is impressive. High ceilings and floor to ceiling windows create a spacious environment at the elegant restaurant. Altitude’s afternoon tea is priced at RM88 per pax (available from 230 pm to 430 pm) and I have to say that it is one of my best afternoon tea experience here in KL.
For the afternoon tea set, the desserts came in an impressive looking three tier stand. Each tier of delicious handcrafted pastries were meticulously paired with selected teas. The bottom tier consists of classic plain scone and fruity cranberry scone served with clotted cream and a home made cherry jam, choux pastry with teh tarik pastry cream and chocolate hazelnut and gianduja molten heart. The second tier consists of passion fruit mousse with mango jelly and green tea sponge, vanilla pastry cream with fresh strawberries and chocolate meringue almond sponge, cherry mousse with cherry jelly and sea salt chocolate sable and pistachio macaron with chocolate garnish. Even the two little donuts on the top tier were delicious!
The savouries that came with the set caught my eyes because I’m not really a dessert person. First, we have a trio of small bites – roasted beef sandwich with horseradish sauce, pancake-coated foie gras with Banyuls shallot and beetroot macaron with house-cured Atlantic salmon with dill and sour cream. Next, the sea urchin cream with Granny Smith apples and shaved bottarga and the curry cappuccino with crab meat grissini, ginger and lemongrass were really delicious! Not to forget about the visually appealing lobster cone with rosemary coral crisp and garden herb garlic tuile served in a cocktail glass.
