KAMPUNGBOYCITYGAL/KAMPUNGBOYCITYGAL – A MALAYSIAN FOOD & TRAVEL BLOG

Theme parks, fine dining, aquarium, museum, award-winning spa and 6 luxury hotels with 6 unique themes…With all of this and all, you’ll never run out of things to do at Resorts World Sentosa Singapore.

Apart from being a perfect place to head to for a family day of fun in Singapore, Resort World Sentosa also has plenty to offer when it comes to couples retreat. We just spent a relaxing weekend here, and get recharged for that first Monday back to work.

We started our day with a couples spa treatment at ESPA. Located next to the Equarius Hotel and Beach Villas, ESPA at RWS is set in a tranquil environment surrounded by lush greenery where you can retreat to unwind, relax and forget time.

It was our second visit to ESPA, and the experience is as good as we can remember. ESPA offers a repertoire of personalized treatments with their signature natural products and we opted for a 60 minutes personalised massage session.
P1110380
With any 60-minute (and above) treatment booked at ESPA, guests get to enjoy extended peaceful couple time with complimentary access to ESPA’s Gym, Outdoor Vitality Pool and Cold Plunge Pool, Forest Onsen-style Pools, Rock Saunas, Crystal Steam Rooms and Refreshing Ice Fountain.
P1110384
The gym is equipped with state-of-the-art Technogym equipments and the spacious workout areas has a lovely garden view.

We also took our own sweet time to enjoy the Outdoor Vitality Pool, a heated pools at 36 to 38 degrees Celsius with loungers and hydro-jets for relieving muscle tension.

Overlooking the Forest Onsen Pools, the Tea Lounge is where you can go to relax, sip tea and eat healthy snacks before heading for your spa treatments.

We were then being ushered to our very own individual villas, each with their own shower. In addition, there are two private spa suites for couples and two waterside villa suites. The two waterside suites have massage couches side-by-side for couples; with views of a private pool, a large terrace and an outdoor massage area.

We felt completely relaxed after our massage session, my therapist is really good in releasing my muscle stress and untying most of the muscle knots. Post treatment, guests can take a nap at the Sleep Zone where there are 18 purpose-built sleep pods with built-in music and reading lights which are designed to relax your body and mind.
P1110392
Guests can also head to the Social Relaxation area which has sofas and an outdoor deck with loungers where you can soak up the sun while enjoying some herbal tea and snacks.

I also took my own sweet time to get ready at the gender separated shower area. They have almost a complete set of toiletries and hair styling products for guests’ perusal as well as a 10 seconds swim wear drying machine.

Now, this is what you call a complete spa experience. A 60-minute treatment session turned into a half a day spa retreat as we got to enjoy all the pre-treatment and post-treatment facilities in ESPA. I wouldn’t mind coming back for a birthday or anniversary treat!

After our spa session in ESPA, we proceeded to Tangerine.
P1110462
Fitting ESPA’s theme of tranquility, you’ll feel like you’re away from the city when dining at Tangerine. The restaurant’s glass windows look out into the tropical gardens of ESPA with lush greenery, flowing water and small pools.

In addition to the regular menu there were two lunch set options – one by consultant chef Ian Kittichai from Thailand (we have tried few years back) and another one by chef Aisha who hailed from Northern California. Chef Aisha is a strong advocate of sustainable agriculture, sources her own ingredients from local farms around South East Asia and grows her own herbs in a little garden patch next to the restaurant.

Our three course lunch menu (SGD 58++) by chef Aisha was nothing but exceptional. We started with “gifts from the kitchen”, being presented in the form of a beautiful looking terrarium in a wooden tray.

The “stones” were edible, they are actually taro crisps with a bursting lemongrass cream filling. The kaffir lime leaf soda with cat’s whiskers flower was incredibly refreshing — I’d even say invigorating.

Gently Cooked Egg, Textures of Daikon
P1110508
The sous-vide, bright orange egg yolk together with the soil, cream soup and VERY thinly sliced daikon is a well balanced and harmonious dish, boasting a variety of colors, textures, tastes and ingredients.
P1110515
Chef Aisha was really nice to let us try her new dish (not in the menu) – quail porridge.

The quail was aged, coated in an aromatic sweet-and-savoury glaze, slow grilled on coconut husk – resulting in a delicious, deeply flavored meat, with a firm texture and an assertive taste but not gamy by any means. The porridge consists of rice pops, sprouting beans, barley and so many other grain types that I could not identify (lousy food blogger), all adding additional textures to the porridge. The beautiful, amber colored liquid is actually a barramundi fish bone stock that has a delicate seafood flavour.

Roasted Beef, Five Spices, Pineapple
P1110522
The five spice marinated roasted beef was tender with great beef flavours. Other elements such as the buttery sweet potato puree, robust flavoured duck jus, charred cabbages with fermented pineapples were beautifully executed.
P1110528
Smoked Barramundi, Aromatic Oils

The smoked barramundi has a nice smoky flavour, wonderful crispy skin on moist flesh. We really like the keropok-like fish skin with spinach, charred leeks and onion consomme drizzled with chili oil, leek oil and scallion oil. Once again, chef Aisha showed us that you can use simple ingredients to add big flavors to ordinary dishes. The onion consomme + aromatic oils features a unique combination of rich flavours.

Tangerine really is a hidden gem that we would highly recommend and couldn’t wait to revisit. If you are tired of the usual chocolates and flowers, try a couples spa day or evening, followed by a remarkable meal at Tangerine to celebrate your love. I would be thrilled too, a great spa and meal experience beats flowers and gifts anytime.
