Greyhound Cafe probably needs no introduction to Malaysian tourists who frequent Bangkok. The highly successful Thai restaurant chain opened its first branch in KL downtown in year 2016, and a second outlet in Mid Valley came shortly after that.

I love the monochromatic décor, cosy wooden furnishing and plenty of potted plants all around the restaurant.

The tables on the covered outdoor seating area are the most popular and make the perfect people-watching spot.

We were eager to get a taste of Bangkok at Greyhound Café, and so we ordered the iconic Fresh Coconut Shake and Thai Iced Tea with Milk.

The Greyhound Famous Fried Chicken Wings and Salmon Sashimi in Spicy Hot Sauce are some of the signature starters that we “must order” when in Bangkok. Both are highly addictive and delicious.

The famous Complicated Noodles requires some work as customers need to assemble the wrap themselves.

It was fun topping the lettuce leaves with soft noodle sheets, chilli sauce, coriander leaves and minced chicken with thick gravy. It’s all worth it!

Phad Thai is the epitome of Thai street food. Greyhound’s version is loaded with fresh shrimps but overall, it tasted bland and insipid.

Minced Chicken with Sweet Basil Hot Chilies is one of my favorite Thai dishes. It’s such a simple dish but still full of flavour. Greyhound’s version is decent, but that perfect sunny side up is a killer.

The Fried Tons of Crab Meat with Rice is kampungboy’s favourite dish in Greyhound Cafe. The fluffy and savoury fried rice is full of wok hei, and the generous amount of fried garlic and tons of crab meat just elevated the dish further.

My favourite dish would be the Spaghetti with Dried Salty Fish, stir-fried with holy basil leaves and chillies. Not to be mistaken with salted fish, the thai dried salty fish is less salty but but has the same kind of umami profile. It pairs surprisingly well with a pasta dish.

For desserts, one must try the Young Coconut Crepe Cake here. The soft strips of young coconut, thin layers of crepe, covered with copious amounts of fresh whipped cream spells heaven.

We also tried the Tub Tim Krob Greyhound Style but preferred the traditional red ruby dessert with strips of jackfruits.

The Happy Toast is a heavily buttered thick and chunky white or whole wheat toast, served with 5 very tasty topping. Now I know how the name is derived, just look at our happy faces while dousing our toast with orange peel marmalade, condensed milk, coffee caramel sauce, thai milk tea custard and sea salt caramel sauce.

There were some hits and misses but the overall meal itself was still satisfying and enjoyable. We would recommend some of our favourite dishes such as the famous fried chicken wings, salmon sashimi, complicated noodles, crab fried rice, spaghetti with dried salty fish and young coconut crepe cake.
